Founded by some of the then leading members of the Nair Community of Ernakulam, as an association for promoting goodwill and amity among the various sections of the society and the Nair community in particular, the Karayogam has now become a full-fledged organization with a number of welfare activities.
The Ernakulam Karayogam, a voluntary non-profit making, social and cultural organization, has completed 90 years of service to the community. The Karayogam celebrated its Platinum Jubilee (75 years of service) in the year 2001 and Navathi in 2015. When it is entering its glorious 91st year of functioning, it will not be inappropriate to trace the Karayogam’s colourful past hallmarked.
The Karayogam was registered in the year 1925, under the then Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act II of 1088 (M.E.). It now stands registered under the Travancore -Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act XII of 1955. The following are the founder-members and then office-bearers of the Karayogam:
